Saturday 17 June 2023 was held in Padula for the reopening to the public of the rock sanctuary of San Michele alle Grottelle. Finally, it was possible for the faithful to admire the frescoes that decorate the interior of the sanctuary, dating back to the 14th-15th century.
On the occasion of the celebration, the statue of the Archangel Michael which had been transported to the Mother Church of San Michele Arcangelo in Padula for the restoration work, returned to the rock sanctuary.
The marble San Michele was carried in a solemn procession by the faithful and by the parish priest, Don Giuseppe Radesca.
Starting from the church of San Michele Arcangelo and crossing the upper part of the town, the procession, after a brief stop in the church of the Madonna del Carmine, continued along the mountain paths that lead to the Civita, the place where the city of Cosilinum.
After a further stop in the panoramic area of the church of San Sepolcro, the faithful continued to the sanctuary of the Grottelle where Don Giuseppe blessed the entrance. This was followed by a heartfelt Eucharistic celebration and a visit to the church by the faithful.
