The solemn celebrations in honor of San Michele Arcangelo, Patron Saint of Padula, have recently concluded, with great participation and enthusiasm on the part of the Padula community.
The cult of Saint Michael is strongly rooted in our community. Don Giuseppe Radesca, Vicar and Parish Priest, recalled: “the Michaelic cult was born at the dawn of Christian life in Padula and is a tradition that has already taken root in the ancient city of Cosilinum, the ancient Padula, the hill that looks towards the east and preserves the Hermitage of San Michele alle Grottelle. When the Cosilinati then moved to this other hill towards the north, they brought the cult of San Michele which has been celebrated in our Mother Church of Padula for more than 1100 years“.
Popular traditions such as that of bonfires are also linked to the cult of San Michele, an evocative and traditional image that indicates the power of good over evil that San Michele represents.
Here are some images from the days of celebrations.
