The place

The Church, whose foundation probably dates back to the 13th century, formerly the palatine chapel, was connected to the Norman Castle via a passage that allowed direct access to the women’s gallery. The chapel, with a single nave, has a sacristy which leads to two women’s galleries, of which the one on the left was intended for the Lords of Padula. Valuable is the marble altar, surmounted by an aedicule which houses a statue of the Madonna del Rosario. In the mid-17th century, a hospital and cemetery were attached to the church.

Itinerary

The places, the territory

Padula, famous throughout the world for the monumental Certosa di San Lorenzo, a UNESCO heritage site, is rich in artistic and architectural elements, made up of churches, streets, statues and votive aedicules also made of local stone which bear witness to 1100 years of life. Therefore, it is not possible to overlook the context in which the Carthusian site was built and above all to overlook two fundamental elements: the matter and the spirit of the Certosa. Discover the itineraries through the territory of Padula.
